  14. WHAT IS PLANETWATCH?
  15. PlanetWatch is a reference program that combines animated maps, color
  16. photographs, and planetary information into an easy to use desktop atlas/
  17. simulation of our Solar System.
  18.  
  19. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  20. PlanetWatch shareware requires an IBM compatible 286 or better, running
  21. Windows 3.1, and at least an VGA display.  (A 386-33 and an SVGA display are
  22. recommended.)  To install and run properly, a minimum of 2mb of ram and
  23. 1.5mb of hard disk space is also required.

  25. REGISTRATION:
  26. PlanetWatch shareware has not been limited in any manner, there are no time
  27. limitations or nasty "begware" requests.  All I ask is if you like it,
  28. consider ordering the enhanced "Pro" version.  PlanetWatch Pro has a larger
  29. 256 color set of photo images, an enhanced atlas, and you also will receive
  30. a "mini-manual".  Cost is $20 U.S. (includes shipping).

  33. id# 2693.

  41. ordering by mail, please make payment in U.S. funds.

  60. Note: vbrun200.dll may not appear in all distributions of the PlanetWatch
  61. shareware.  Some bbs's will assume you have vbrun200.dll and remove it to
  62. make the distribution smaller.  PlanetWatch will not run without
  63. vbrun200.dll installed.  You should be able to find it from wherever
  64. you downloaded this distribution, ask your sysop if you cannot locate it.

  66. INSTALLATION:
  67. 1) Unzip the PlanetWatch files to a directory called "PLNWCH" on your hard
  68.    drive.
  69. 2) If it you don't already have it, copy the file VBRUN200.DLL to your
  70.    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (if you are on a network you may not have a
  71.    SYSTEM directory in which case you put it in your \WINDOWS directory).
  72.    (do NOT remove any other VBRUNxxx.DLL files you find there!)
  73. 3) If you don't already have it, copy the file THREED.VBX to your
  74.    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (if you are on a network you may not have a
  75.    SYSTEM directory in which case you put it in your \WINDOWS directory).
  76.    If you already have THREED.VBX, check the date on the file - if it is
  77.    older than 7/16/93 please rename it as THREED.BAK and replace it with
  78.    the THREED.VBX distributed in this archive.   
  79.    NOTE: GPF errors can occur with some older versions of THREED.VBX!!
  80. 4) Install the PlanetWatch icon with the Windows Program Manager.  To do
  81.    this, click on the group box you want to put PlanetWatch in. Next select
  82.    "File" from the Windows Program Manager menu, then select "New...".
  83.    Click the button labeled "Program Item" then click the "OK" button.  A
  84.    new dialog box will open, click the "browse" button, use the file dialog
  85.    to find PlanetWatch (if you copied it to your c: drive and used the
  86.    PLNWCH directory I suggested above then your path should be
  87.    "c:\plnwch\plnwch.exe").  When you've located the file "plnwch.exe"
  88.    highlight it and click "OK".  The PlanetWatch icon should now be
  89.    installed in the group box.
  90. 5) Double-click the PlanetWatch icon to start PlanetWatch.

  92. UN-INSTALLING:
  93. Remove the following files from your PlanetWatch directory..
  94. earth.bmp    jupiter.bmp    mars.bmp    mercury.bmp
  95. moon.bmp    neptune.bmp      plnwch.exe    plnwch.hlp
  96. pluto.bmp    readme.txt    saturn.bmp    sun.bmp
  97. uranus.bmp    venus.bmp
  98. Do NOT delete VBRUN200.DLL or THREED.VBX from your \Windows directories!

  100. IN CASE OF PROBLEMS:
  101. If you experience system lockups or other problems when attempting to run
  102. PlanetWatch, check the following:
  103. * Is your cpu a 286 or better?
  104. * Are you using a VGA (or VGA compatible) graphics card?
  105. * Are you using Microsoft Windows 3.1 or better?  The program itself will
  106.   run in Windows 3.0 but the Help and Atlas will not display.  Behavior
  107.   with Chicago(Win 4.0), Windows NT or OS2/Windows is unknown at this time.
  108.   Would greatly appreciate it if someone could let me know!
  109. * Are you using MSDOS 3.X or later?  (DRDOS behavior unknown at this time)
  110. * Do you have at least 2mb of RAM memory installed?  4mb or more is better.
  111. * Is Windows running in either STANDARD or ENHANCED mode? - check the
  112.   Program Manager About box (within the Program Manager Help menu).
  113. * Are all PlanetWatch files in the appropriate directories?
  114.  
  115. Although every effort has been made to eliminate program bugs, there is
  116. always something I may have overlooked.  I would appreciate your help in
  117. making PlanetWatch better by reporting any problems you encounter.

  130. KNOWN BUGS
  131. No known catastrophic bugs...
  132. * With some 16-color display drivers, the PlanetWatch "diagnostic" help
  133.   function may report "0 colors".  Although this report is incorrect, it
  134.   does not affect normal operation of PlanetWatch in any way.
  135. * It is possible PlanetWatch could have problems discerning a custom
  136.   international date format.  In this case it will default to "year month
  137.   day" format.
  138. * threed.vbx - there are several versions of this vbx out there, some of
  139.   which may cause ODD 3D shading effects within PlanetWatch dialogs and
  140.   windows or even GPF errors.  I will be dropping usage of this vbx in the
  141.   near future.

  145. SOFTWARE LICENSE - Please read before using PlanetWatch!
  146. You may use and distribute the shareware version of PlanetWatch as long as
  147. you observe the following conditions...

  149. PlanetWatch shareware must be distributed with all files complete, intact,
  150. and unaltered (see the README.TXT file for a listing of files).
